Fairs & Festivals

Springfest

The Springfest, a celebration of Spring, involves the schools and the entire community.  The first 3-day festival was held in 1987 and was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Paul C. Baker (1934-1986) a local physician and community leader who was instrumental in the origination of the Tulip Festival (original name).  The Springfest Committee schedules the activities of the festival and oversees the planting of tulip beds throughout the city.  A Springfest Queen is crowned, Maypoles are wound and community organizations provide a busy schedule of activities.  The festival is scheduled for weekend activities each year in the middle of April.

Gasconade County Fair

The last full week of July each year, Owensville hosts the largest county-wide event—The Gasconade County Fair.  The Fair Association is a non-profit organization, governed by a board.  All profits are used to make the succeeding Fair better each year.  Activities begin on Wednesday with entries of exhibits and livestock, carnival rides, food booths and the “Little Mr. & Miss. Gasconade County” contest and the “Miss Gasconade County Fair” contest.  For eligibility requirements for these contests, contact Stacey Misner, (573) 437-3203 or Shirley Lansford, (573) 437-2583.  The exhibit halls are full of agricultural products, baked and canned foods, handmade creations, flowers and 4-H and Scout projects.  The livestock barns are a popular attraction with beef and dairy cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and rabbits.  The Livestock/Ham Sale is held on Saturday beginning at 3:00PM.  Many local businesses and industries support the exhibitors.  For livestock questions: (573) 437-2837 or (573) 437-3751.  Also, each evening a stage show and musical entertainment is provided.  Tractor pulls and a Demolition Derby is also held during the 4-day fair.
