Owensville Organizations

Gasconade Timing Association

The G.T.A. Car Club was organized in 1990 by a group of local automobile enthusiasts.  It is dedicated to the enjoyment of high performance and vintage automobiles.  The club hosts 3 main car shows per year.  They are the Chamber of Commerce Car Show during the Springfest in Owensville and the Thresher Car Show in July.  There are approximately 40 members.  The car club sponsors a scholarship every year to a High School senior and donates to several community projects along with local nursing homes.  The members are active in surrounding area car shows and cruises also.  The club has an annual spring picnic and Christmas party every year.  For information concerning the club you may call Mike Buchholz, president at (573) 437-4430.

Gasconade County Historical Society

The purpose of the Gasconade County Historical Society is to bring together people interested in history, especially those people interested in the history of Gasconade County. We believe that understanding the history of our community is basic to our democratic way of life. It gives us a greater appreciation for our state of Missouri and our nation while promoting a better appreciation of our American heritage. VFW Post #6133 & Auxiliary

If you are a veteran of the U.S. Military, and served overseas, according to the campaign and location of deployment, you are eligible to become a member of the VFW.  The Post is located at 604 W. Jefferson Street, in Owensville.  Membership also provides information on the possible admittance to the Veterans’ home and the Old Soldiers’ Home.  Veterans are eligible for low cost prescription medicines and hospital care.

The members are very active with participation in the flag raising at the 4th of July celebration, the Gasconade County Fair, and other community events.  They sponsor a $1,000 scholarship to an outstanding high school senior, who is a relative of a veteran.

Hospital equipment has been donated to Heartland, but if there is a special request for something, call the VFW Post commander Nick Baxter at 573-646-3147.

The VFW is also a sponsor of the local Boy Scouts, music at the Gazebo and other local activities.

Social events are scheduled throughout the year, with dancing on Saturdays, and Bingo on Fridays, for those over 16.
