Memorial Park
Owensville proudly boasts four parks within the city limits. Memorial Park, the largest park in the system, was developed in the 1940’s. It is located on the City’s east side and has an entrance on Hwy. 28 East. The park contains a 9-hole golf course, 2 ball fields, a swimming pool, 2 tennis courts, 1 volleyball court, horseshoe pits, small and large covered pavilions, barbecue grills, playground equipment, restrooms, 2 large exhibit halls, large contained food stand, fitness trail and barns which are used for the Gasconade County Fair. The fair is held each year during the last weekend in July.
Buschmann City Square Park
Buschmann Park, located in the center of 3rd, 4th, Jefferson, and Madison Streets was originally called City Square Park but was renamed in 1980 after the generous and long-time residents George Heinrich Buschmann and his wife, Emma. They donated the land for the future county court house in the early 1900’s. However, the court house was eventually built in Hermann when a resident there not only donated the land for the court house but also donated the funds for the court house to be built. George and Emma Buschmann also donated the land for Luster Park, the Library and City Hall.
Buschmann Park features restrooms, covered small picnic areas, playground equipment, a small concrete basketball court and a Gazebo which was built through volunteer community efforts. It was dedicated in 1982 to the memory of Richard Rousset, Chamber of Commerce President during its construction. The planning committee consisted of Richard and Donna Rousset, Dr. Paul and Louise Baker, Bud and Janet Taylor, Rev. Jim and Doris Dace, and Don and Mary Jo Lenauer. The Building Trades Class at the Gasconade Co. R-II School constructed the Gazebo which is frequently used for weddings and musical presentations. For Gazebo rental call (573) 437-2812.
Luster Park
Luster Park, located at the corner of 2nd & Washington Streets, originally was called The Railroad Park and has been is existence since the early 1900’s. It was re-named in 1988 in honor of the gentlemen who ‘won the now famous horseshoe match but named the city after his friend Owens. The community decided Luster needed some recognition and hence named this park after him. The park features 2 horseshoe pits, covered picnic area, playground equipment and an area that is flooded for ice skating in the winter.
Winter Park
Winter Park was developed and dedicated in the mid 1980’s . It contains 2 racquetball courts, and covered picnic facility. The park was developed through the cooperation of local citizens. The late (Alfred) Dick Dieckhaus and the late Peter Lehner, were instrumental in its development. Others spearheading the project were: Jeff Schaeperkoetter, Jim Decker, Dr. Paul Baker, Tom Warden and Del Yamnitz. Community individuals and groups helped make this a reality. The park was named and dedicated in honor of Milford and the late Velma (Gottenstroeter) Winter. The Winters have been lifetime residents of Owensville and have generously supported activities and projects in the Owensville area.
